Short and to the point this week as the webmaster is feeling under the weather (in fact, maybe just because I’m a bloke, I’ve just got off my death bed to type this up … cough, cough … thud)

Companions Trophy

Two congratulations this week.  First goes to Jenni for coming 1st and getting the maximum ten points and second goes to Dave A. for being the second to qualify for the Week 27 competition.  Dave A. moves up from Foot Forester 2nd Rank to Riding Forester 1st Rank along with Andy TB.  Next week could see a couple more qualify so watch this space.

Companions Events

The following are Big Three events that the Companions have now committed to.:

Clun Green Man Festival

Sunday 4th May and Monday the 5th May 2008.  Click here to see the Clun website.   The theme is Good Versus Evil and it’s not a medieval type festival so it’ll be mixed club colours and medieval kit event.  For those in medieval kit though there will be an opportunity to take part in a bridge fight and a fight in front of the main pub for which weapons and armour will be provided.

There’ll be a field available to pitch tents as well as a barn for those who want a bit more cover from the elements.  You’ll have the run of the town (half a mile away) and the castle, but if you just want to shoot, you can spend the entire two days in the arena shooting.

E-mail Bob if you’re interested in committing at president@companionsofthelongbow.co.uk

Sherwood Forest

Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th July 2008.  A display and have-a-go in Sherwood Forest, in front of the Major Oak.  Mixed club colours and medieval kit, although the main display will have to be in medieval for the following (& hopefully quite clear) reasons.  After last year it was apparent that we’ll need to have a strong Robin Hood theme to our display and therefore we’re looking to put on a show with some of the main characters having speaking parts.  Parts available are Robin Hood, Little John, Friar Tuck, Alan A Dale, Much, Maid Marion as well as various Merry Men & Women along with Cheshire Archers (the bad guys).  If you’d like to put your name down for a part  E-mail Bob if you’re interested in committing at president@companionsofthelongbow.co.uk. Please state which part (or parts) you think you’d like and the parts will be cast in a couple of weeks.

The main “play” won’t involve archery per se (because we don’t have the benefit of CGI, can you imagine the pressure on the poor person picked to play Robin Hood?) but will involve some fights and so some combat training and rehearsal will be necessary.  We’re aiming not to disturb the main Saturday shoots (which is a core activity of the club) and so if a Saturday rehearsal is scheduled it’ll be for no earlier than 1.30pm (giving 3 1/2 hours for the main shoot) or we’ll be scheduling weekday rehearsals.

I haven’t got accommodation information yet but all event details as they come in will be posted up in the Members Area.

Lackham Country Park

Sunday 27th July 2008.  A Wootton Bassett type display, mixed club colours and medieval.  It’s less than an hours drive from Swindon so it shouldn’t be an overnight stay event.  There’s more details in the Members Area (hopefully there’ll be something similar to Lackham in the Members Area for Sherwood and Clunn soon).

That’s the Big Three for 2008.  Other than that we’ve got Saturday 17th May 2008 a demonstration and Have-A-Go for Kat’s mum at Roves Farm and we’ve also got a have-a-go over the Easter Weekend at Roves Farm.  If you’re available over the Easter Weekend (Friday 21st March to Monday 24th March) please e-mail Andrew at chairman@companionsofthelongbow.co.uk.  He’ll pick two days that we can offer the most coverage and let you know what’ll happen.  Remember that’s two days coverage so if you can only do one that’s okay, all help offered will be gratefully accepted!

And Finally

Short and sweet this week, as always … got a suggestion for the club?  Send it to suggestions@companionsofthelongbow.co.uk or send them direct to any of the committee members e-mail address (see Contact Us page for these).
