Short and sweet this week as your friendly neighbourhood webmaster has been away. However, like Starsky and Hutch my very own Huggy Bear has let me know what the word on the street is …
Companions Trophy & Saturday Shoot & Sherwood Forest & More...
This week the Companions Trophy consisted of a game of 9 hole archery golf. From the Week 24 scores (which are now in the Members Area) Alina has gone up one rank to Riding Forester 1st rank which mean she’s qualified for the Week 27 competition. Congratulations! A bit of maths tells us that we’re getting pretty close to that Week 27 competition so keep plugging away all those that are still at Walking Forester 2nd rank ...
After the Trophy competition there was some Barbie shooting (always popular) followed by some long range shooting. Andrew took the opportunity to do some scything work in the roundel which means there’s now a nice big clear patch in the middle. After clearing the site last year it appears to have come back with twice as much fury, but we need the space for our new 3D target ...
Sherwood Forest practice continues. There’s stickfighting practice every Tuesday at Roves (see Calendar) and, as a bit of background, you’ll perhaps be please to read an article in the Member’s Gallery (posted in the Members Area) about quarterstaff fighting. It’s never too late to put your name forward for Sherwood Forest, we still need plenty of bad guys … Talking of which the weekend before Sherwood we’ll need to do a full rehearsal and it seemed a good idea to also have a barbeque and perhaps another Archery Room 101. Nothing has been planned yet so watch this space.
Range Captains, be alert! Your safety officer will be accosting you with a copy of the Safety Case and will be asking for your signatures. Ade is the latest addition and there are also about four others who haven’t signed their lives away yet. You should have had an electronic version of the Safety Case to read before hand so if you think you should have had it but haven’t, e-mail Mark at webadmin@companionsofthelongbow.co.uk.
Finally (until the And Finally bit) because it’s a light news update take a look in the Photo Gallery section. Sent in by the TB family and kept back for a light news week such as this, in there you’ll find Fortress Wales pictures from our lucrative Have-A-Go weekend last month (Andrew has also sent me through some Fortress Wales pictures but they came through at 10 ‘O’clock last night so I’ve not had time to post them up yet). Alas there are no pictures of Dave A. doing Have-A-Go with Jodie Marsh (it’s a short story) but there are some good pictures for you to look through.
Mel Illsley - Race for Life
A request from Mel and the Race for Life...
“I managed to complete the 5k course on Saturday in 45 mins. As I’d had a chest infection for the month before the race I hadn’t trained for that time so was pleased with my time considering it was my first running event I’d ever taken part in. Managed to raise some money for Cancer Research but if anyone from the club would like to sponsor me too, that would be fantastic.”
The link to her sponsorship form is as follows: http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/melanieillsley
And Finally …
As always … got a suggestion or question for the club (or committee)? Send it to suggestions@companionsofthelongbow.co.uk or send them direct to any of the committee members e-mail address (see Contact Us page for these).
And Finally, Finally …
Courtesy of Andrew here are some photos from the quicklime arrows that we made from last week. Enjoy! |
