And Finally
We’ve still got some Companions fleeces, T-shirts and polo shirts in stock. Here's a list of the stock we have left:
* Fleeces (£18 each): M x 1, L x 1
* T-shirts (£9 each): M x 1, L x 3
* Polo shirts (£13 each): L x 6
Speak to Jenni G if you want to purchase anything.
If you’ve got a moment scroll up and take a look at Dave A’s revamped spinning logo in the top left of the page. What do you think? Dave produced the original spinning logo from Jennie A’s arrowhead design and here he’s made the image a lot slicker. The new image will be populated through out the whole site for the next update. Take a look at another page to make a comparison. Thanks Dave.
As always … got a suggestion for the club? Send it to suggestions@companionsofthelongbow.co.uk or send them direct to any of the committee members e-mail address (see Contact Us page for these). |

President’s Shield
This coming Saturday as some of you know is the President’s Shield. Hurrah! It kicks off at 11.30 am but come along at the normal time if you want to help set up and get a bit of practice in.
In a change to the competition this year there’ll be two trophies on offer - one for the highest scoring man and one for the highest scoring woman. Sorry, there are no separate categories for children, pensioners, beginners, advanced, people with high bow weights, people in medieval costume or sadly, people with beards who drive Hyundai’s. It’s just men and women. Good luck everyone.
Companion’s Banquet
Also of course in the evening there’ll be the Companion’s Anniversary Banquet marking two years since the club formed. Not printed on the tickets is the start time so make a note that it’ll start at 6.30 pm at the Gloucester Old Spot. For you non-vegetarians, remember to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables between now and then because the meal itself, being a medieval banquet, is all about meat. It’s nearly sold out but at the time of publishing there are a couple of tickets left. Contact Jenni G if you want one.

Parking at Roves Farm
There’s been a couple of problems with parking at Roves Farm during this particularly tough wet winter season so here’s a reminder of where you can and cannot park.
Where you CAN park;
Ideally you should be parking either on the field marked by the gravel mounds or on the roundel field itself. If it’s too wet and muddy you should consider using the Roves Farm main car park (yes, we know there’s a bit of a walk). At a push, if the St. George flag isn’t flying over the paintballer’s wood, use the paintballer’s car park. Use of the paintballer’s car park should be a last resort though.
Where you CANNOT park;
On the grass verges that run either side of the tracks. These are strictly off limits. The second place to avoid is to park blocking any of the track ways. So, as a rule of thumb, if you park up and any of your wheels are touching a main track way, you’re probably parking in the wrong place. Consider using one of the designated car parks.
Popinjay Targets and Blunts
Just to give the members an early warning we’ll hopefully soon have a permanent popinjay target set up in the roundel field. If you’re asking what’s popinjay it’s basically shooting at a bird target set on a pole at a high position. Now as it’s a bit of a pain to keep lowering the target to get your arrows back this sport is done with blunts and the target is reset via a cunningly attached piece of string. So to play you’ll need to make a set of six arrows with blunts on the end (blunts were used to hunt small game like birds in the first place). Bob recommends not to use the “red” blunts that have become popular as they’ll apparently throw your accuracy off. He recommends sticking to the black blunts. Your friendly neighbourhood webmaster is now off to paint his red blunts black and blame his poor shooting on an old back injury …
Stuff That Happened Over Easter
Taken by Andrew, what follows are some pictures of some of the shoots over the Easter period that I’ve missed including the Have-A-Go at Roves Farm on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. Enjoy! |
