Happy New Year
Happy New Year everyone, it’s time to look forward to another good year of shooting in 2008. This year we’ve got a number of shows in the pipeline, an invite to Tewkesbury, the possibility of the permanent use the Roundel Field which means more semi-permanent ranges and targets (can anyone make a full sized knight?), the conclusion of the first Companions Trophy as well as the second Presidents Shield and finally our second anniversary banquet. Add to this a few more Companions Challenges and a new Retinue League there’s lots going on, lots to look forward to and lots for you to pick and choose to do.
Companions Trophy
While the website has been on it’s holidays for three weeks, the Companions Trophy has not. Shortly before the break Mark and Jennie both scored enough points to raise themselves from 4th to 3rd class and therefore their ranks from Arrowmen to Under-Forester. In the three weeks since then though Andy TB has caught up and also raised his score to the rank of Under-Forester, so well done all!
You can look up the latest scores (Week 5 is currently listed) in the Members Area. For those who’re not yet off the mark don’t despair. There’s still another nineteen or twenty weeks of competition to get the necessary points to qualify for the final competition!
NFAS Membership
Message from Helen (club secretary) which was first e-mailed to you just before Christmas;
By now you will probably have received the latest NFAS newsletter which includes the renewal form for membership.
Please do not send the form directly to NFAS as they request. The NFAS fee comes from your annual COTL membership fee each year so please send them to Jennie (address in original e-mail). She will then send them to NFAS with a club cheque.
Earlier this month it came to light that NFAS forms were not included in some of the older membership packs, and as such not completed by a couple of members, who were then not insured to shoot at Roves Farm.
If you have not completed an NFAS form in the past please contact either myself or Jennie and this can be rectified. You will not be insured to shoot at Roves Farm until this is done.
Copies of the membership forms can be downloaded from http://www.nfas.net/downloads/NFASapplicationrenewal.pdf
And Finally...
Firstly you can now take a look at the pictures from the Christmas Shoot in the Gallery. Many thanks to the TB family for sending these in.
Secondly Andy re-ran the Five Gate Challenge that we attempted just before Christmas. The second time around it was done in only 17 arrows, ten less than the first time! These Challenges must be getting too easy ...
Thirdly for those who missed the Scrapheap Challenge Welly Wanging Competition shown on channel 4 before Christmas, here is a list, in no particular order, of all the millisecond bits showing the Companions;
(1) Establishing shot of Bob and Jane driving Bad Neighbour 2 into the compound. (2) Establishing shot of Mark in monks outfit talking to safety expert. (3) Establishing shot of Jen grinning into camera. (4) Establishing shot of Mark’s bare legs walking right to left. (5) Establishing shot of Rachel, Dave A. and Mark beginning to move Bad Neighbour 2 with the help of a scaffolding pole. (6) Establishing crowd shot of the Women’s Welly Wanging Champion watching the machines. Behind her were Dave A., Mark and Sheila.
Total air time all together was about 3 seconds - job done! Click here to actually see Bad Neighbour 2 being shot. Well done to all involved, a lot of work went into the siege engine and it was fun even if we weren’t shown in any detail. By the way, did anyone notice that the All Stars team’s piston seemed to have grown a bit since their build “the day before”?
And finally, as always … got a suggestion for the club? Send it to suggestions@companionsofthelongbow.co.uk or send them direct to any of the committee members e-mail address (see Contact Us page for these). |
